Each year I love to explore the trends that are on the rise and set to define the year ahead.
I’ve compiled a list of the top seven trends we’ll be seeing in 2025. Get ready to see these in our homes, kitchens and bathrooms.
This year‘s trends are all underpinned with our desire for relaxed comfort, connection and nostalgia. We’ve been moving away from all white, minimalistic interiors towards homes that are more personal, cosy and inviting through styling, colour, pattern and materiality.
This brings us to what I see as one of the biggest trends in 2025.
1. Contemporary Nostalgia
This trend focuses on luxurious yet laid-back interiors. It's an effortless blend of sophistication and nostalgic touches to create a space that feels both polished, personal and inviting.
Start with a vintage or eye catching rug as the foundation then layer in a plush lounge alongside a sculptural or rustic coffee table for contrast. Complete the look with a favourite piece of artwork, a unique armchair and curated objects that each hold a story.
Infusing our interiors with pieces collected over time creates depth and interest. We are moving towards displaying our personal possessions but forget clutter, this style is intentional, refined and considered.

Invest in quality furniture that will last and hold their value. The perfect pieces are those that have been handed down through the family or have been bought at a local vintage or recycle store. It’s also about the placement of furniture. We are craving connection and by strategically arranging seating we can promote interaction and conversation.
With smaller decorative items, tap into nostalgia by arranging your treasured objects into vignettes, grouping them by type, style or colour for a curated look. It’s all about personalising our interiors and reflecting our interests.

2. Mid-Range Timber Tones
After years of light woods dominating our homes, expect to see the use of mid range to dark toned oaks, walnuts and soft toned black wood. These shades bring warmth and richness without overwhelming a space and are perfect for cabinetry, flooring and architectural detailing..

3. Earthy and Saturated Colours
Our love affair with deep earthy colours will continue in 2025.
Green is here to stay.
Its organic and calming qualities continue to make it a favourite and we’ll see it in tiles, bench tops, splash backs, fabrics, paint colour and more.

The colour trending right now is brown. Pantone’s colour of the year for 2025, Mocha Mousse (a colour which sounds as delicious as it looks!) is setting the scene for this year's interiors. Brown was big in the seventies but expect to see it applied in a more modern way.

Red will also be making a statement - but not the bold, fire engine shade of red. I’m referring to beautiful warm earthy reds like terracotta, rust and cinnamon as well as deep ochre and vibrant burnt orange.
These hues of red bring both vibrancy and a grounding energy to create spaces that feel both dynamic and soothing.

4. Material Maximalism
There is a growing and exciting trend around textured surfaces. We're moving away from plain plasterboard walls towards using natural materials such as stone, concrete, timber and brick.
Allowing these materials to take centre stage or act as a subtle backdrop creates a striking level of depth within the home that is hard to beat.
This trend is particularly effective in kitchens and bathrooms where enveloping a space in one or more materials creates a strong visual impact.

Alternatively, to introduce texture in a space, consider installing vj panelling, using textured paint, hanging dimensional art work, natural fabrics for soft furnishings and rustic small furniture pieces such as coffee and side tables.
Whether it’s exposed natural materials or sensory textiles, 'material drenching' in 2025 is all about creating depth, interest and a sense of quiet luxury.
5. Mixed Metals
A top trend for 2025 interior design is mixing metal finishes.
There was a time when every metal finish in a home had to match—taps, sinks, cabinetry and door hardware were all the same. We'll see a preference towards selecting different metals to add character and create a more effortless and layered look.
Try pairing a polished chrome mixer with a matte black sink and antique brass cabinet pulls for contrast. Or combine brass, blackened steel and antique bronze across lighting, fixtures, and hardware to bring depth and visual interest to a space.

6. Patterned Textiles and Tiles
In 2025, interiors will see a resurgence of the application of pattern in fabrics, rugs, upholstery and tiles.
Whether it’s checkerboard stone flooring or hand-painted tiles, geometrics, stripes or subtle florals in upholstery and soft furnishings, this trend is a move away from minimally adorned interiors of recent years.
The focus will be on craftsmanship and storytelling with patterns providing the opportunity to reflect cultural influences and artisanal techniques and resulting in more expressive, curated interiors.

These are my predictions for the top trends that we'll be seeing in 2025.
