Renovations or new builds can be the perfect time to add that beautiful design feature you’ve long coveted. One such feature that has been given a starring role in some of the latest home designs is round windows.
There's no doubt they grab your attention. They create a beautiful and strong focal point in any room. With their organic and minimalistic shape round windows are perfect for that relaxed and stylish aesthetic in your home.
The view
To make the most of a beautiful view and enhance the connection to nature, position the window to frame greenery, lawn, a garden, a view of water or even a mural or other design feature. Amplify the view by adding a mirror opposite the window to double the view.
Can round windows be opened?
There are several ways that round windows can be opened. The main way is a pivoting pane where the whole pane of glass pivots at the bottom or on the side.
Styling
When your round window is positioned above a bench top then placing a vase, book or other treasured object will add depth and interest. Where the window is located away from cabinetry then a console table or low cabinet can be placed in front and styled with foliage or a ceramic sculpture to create a stylish vignette. For a pure minimalistic look keep the window clear of furniture and objects.
Window treatments for round windows
Strategic placement of round windows that capture the view yet are not restrained by privacy concerns or subject to direct sun shining in do not need to be shaded.
If, however, privacy or direct sunlight are an issue then window coverings should be considered. A roman blind can be hung above the window. Or, if possible, conceal a venetian blind in the ceiling or behind a pelmet so it's not visible during the day is another option. Often it's simply a matter of attaching a rod and hanging light linen curtains for softness, shade and privacy.
Cost
Round windows can be more expensive however as their demand increases, prices will start to come down and be on par with standard windows. Installation usually needs the wall framing to be adapted to ensure the right fit and so there is an increase in trade labour costs.
Are round windows on trend? I believe they are. If you have a room that needs a design feature that adds an element of surprise, interest and style then adding in a round window will have that effect.
